- Vampire: Begin play as a vampire, a creature of eternal darkness, a bloodsucker. Weild powers of insanity or pure brute strength or summon the power of death herself.
- Ghoul: Start play as a thrall to a vampire, an addict who is blood bound to the master. See the Masquerade but be just out of reach of its true mysteries.
- Human: Induce play as a sheep, you are the unbelieving living your ignorant life. But things are being stirred up for you. Get yourself caught in the net of the Masquerade, and become entangled as you try to make sense of it.

4. Powerful; a member of the primogen (or bishop)
5. Luminary; a prince (or archbishop)
Step Five: Finishing Touches
- Assign Virtues, you are given 7 Virtues to put within Conscience, Self-Control and Courage. Each Virtue has an automatic 1 dot invested in it before you assign your 7 Virtue points.
- Record your Humanity (Humanity is Conscience+Self-Control once you add those two together you get your Humanity Rating.)
- Record your Willpower (Willpower is your Courage score. Willpower lets you get one success in combat or in persuasion whatever. It is very versatile.)
- Mark your Blood Pool, which is equal to your generation. Look at the Generation (Background) if you need to determine what your Blood Pool is.
- Pick your Merits and Flaws. It works like this, for every Flaw you invest in gives you points. So if you get a Flaw worth 3, you have 3 points to spend on a Merit.
- Spend your Freebie Points on raising Attributes or Abilities or Merits or Backgrounds even raising Willpower or Virtue. Keep in mind that once character creation is done some things cannot be spent on later such as Merits and Flaws or Backgrounds or Virtues.

I would also advice you to attain a copy of Vampire the Masquerade (revised) which can explain things better than I can. For further reading consider acquiring clanbooks or players handbooks or other such additional things, but for the most part this shall cover it.
